Kate Botello was always the good one
For anyone who was a fan of ZDTV (then renamed Tech TV) you will know of The Screen Savers. I could be wrong but, I think it was the biggest show on the new, tech-focused network. Maybe John C. Dvorak’s (RIP) Silicon Spin was up there too.
Anyway, I’ve wondered what happened to Kate. For better or for worse, we know what happened with LeoLaporte, but the tldr is that Kate seems to have ended up doing various things, most importantly, perhaps ending up Interlochen Public Radio doing Classical IPR.
As someone who likes both tech and NPR and simply liking people who aren’t one note folks, I thoroughly enjoyed finding that out. I know absolutely nothing about her life during and after The Screen Savers apart from what was on the show, but I think I’d want to live her life more than Leo’s. At the very least it seems more interesting.
For me personally that’s no surprise just given that within the show even it felt like she had more depth and added more to the show. Leo might have been the bigger nerd and certainly still holds a ‘higher’ position within the tech community but these days I’m not sure that even says much.
It’s always better to be Dorothy than the Wizard. I hope she is doing well, and thanks to her for the brief time providing entertainment with tech which was a fairly new and unique concept at the time.
